Fluid and translation · Question 2 of 12

In which file format are the translations (labels) of a TYPO3 extension stored?

1 answer is correct. Easy

Show answer

Answer

  • C XLIFF files with the extension .xlf

Explanation

TYPO3 stores labels in XLIFF files, usually at Resources/Private/Language/locallang.xlf; translations sit next to it with a language prefix, such as de.locallang.xlf. In Fluid you output a label for example with <f:translate key="LLL:EXT:my_ext/Resources/Private/Language/locallang.xlf:product.title" />. Since v14 TYPO3 understands XLIFF 2.0 in addition to XLIFF 1.2 and internally uses the Symfony Translation component – but the file format remains XLIFF. Gettext files (.po) are familiar from other PHP systems, but TYPO3 does not read them for extension labels.
