Redirects · Question 12 of 12

Why does the Redirects documentation advise against using 301 for automatically created redirects?

1 answer is correct. Hard

Show answer

Answer

  • D Because permanent redirects are stored by browsers and search engines and the old URL can hardly be reused afterwards

Explanation

The documentation warns: only use 301 if you never want to use the source URL again. Automatic redirects often arise incidentally from slug changes, which is why 307 is the default. Deliberately created, permanent redirects can use 301.
